ELLIS IN BRENDANLAND

IS it a case of Brendan Behan stalking the Sydney stage tonight in the shape of Bob Ellis or Bob Ellis taking stage in the shape of Brendan Behan?

In an inspired piece of casting, Ellis will perform as Behan in The Human Behan (Last Confessions of an Irish Rebel) at the Stables Theatre at 6.30 pm as part of the Sydney Playwrights' Centre's ongoing series of rehearsed readings of new plays.

Written by Karl Caulfield, the work is being performed under the direction of the Sydney Theatre Company's new resident dramaturg, Paul Thompson.

The Irish Rebel will have as his companions Valerie Bader, Judi Farr, Drew Forsythe and David Wenham.
